MHP FORMAL PROPOSAL OUTLINE

A formal proposal should have the following parts:

1)      Context: What is the history you are fitting your research into? What is the setting of your controversy? Don’t forget to cite sources used to write this section. This will become the seed to the writing in your final report so go nuts here.

2)      Question: What question are you going to answer? Do you have a hypothesis yet? What is it? Is there a counter-claim?

3)      Claims: What claims will you maybe be making? (Note, sections 3 and 4 can be combined.)

4)      Sources: What sources will you consult, secondary and primary? List them in bibliography format with any notes on how you will use them. Who is your subject or what sort of person will you be looking for?

5)      Reflections: Can you think of any problems you have to overcome? What obstacles do you predict? Have you planned for them?

History is cited using the Turabian or Chicago style format. See here. https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/turabian/citation-guide.html
