First Contact: My first time in Mississippi was during a 2004 road trip to Memphis and Nashville. I crossed the border just to say I did it and stopped at a Walgreens half a block into the state near Southhaven to get some t-shirts to prove I was there. The area around here seemed to be quickly urbanizing. I wanted to see more and had plans to go as far as Tupelo, but had to begin heading north toward Nashville.

I got my first real look at the state while assisting in a church trip that saw the delivery of much needed supplies to a hurricane-devastated church in Moss Point. The destruction was spread across the entire southern half of the state and was like nothing else I've ever seen. I pray for the recovery of the Gulf Coast.

Southhaven. Been here four times. Urbanizing area south of Memphis. Eventually it will be pretty much incorporated into the general sprawl of its Tennessee neighbor. Things are laid back as can be.
