In Allen Davis' will he leaves Margret and her children land and slaves (see her record for details). Historian Richard Tristano says that there is little doubt Allen Davis was the illigitimate father of Minor. [Tristano] This was also seen in the Illinois Death Index, but it listed birthplace as Washington, MS, a small unincorporated area outside Natchez.
1873 On Feb 3rd, registers himself with the Freedmen's Bank as Minor Davis in Natchez, MS. Says he is 22 and born in Natchez. Complexion is "yellow." He is a printer. Unmarried. Father is dead. Mother is Margaret Davis. Brothers include Toney and Joseph. He has sisters Virginia and Louisa. [U.S. Freedmen's Bank Records]

Feb 16 - About finished surveying Mr. A.V. Davis Potowomut Plantation. Feb 18 - Commenced plotting Potowomut. Feb 21 - Surveyed the Potowomut corn ground in forenoon. Commenced surveying Mr. A.V. Davis' Sahara place in afternoon. Feb 26 - Finished for the most part the survey of Sahara. Feb 27 - Did some further surveying on Potowomut. Mar 9 - Went down to stay at Mr. Jas Flaningams [?] overseer of Sahara. Mar 20 - Went over to Sycamore and measured some ditches dug by Watson for Mr. Davis. Mar 27 - Finished running leveling & staking out the ditches at Sycamore; went back to Sahara. Mar 29 - Run off 100 acres of the Sahara woodland. Mar 30 - Finished all the maps. Apr 1 - Went to Natchez. Apr 4 - Commenced publication of my card in the Natchez Courier." This is unrelated probably Alfred Vidal Davis.
