Friedrich Clement [Parents] "Fritz, "The Harlerer Friedchen"" was born 1 on 6 Apr 1874 in Harlange, Wiltz, Luxembourg. He died 2 on 19 Nov 1932 in Ohio. The cause of death was Tuberculosis. He married Kate. Friedrich immigrated 3 on 8 Mar 1898 to New York, NY (Ellis Island). He was naturalized 4 on 12 Oct 1900 in Chicago, IL. He was employed 5 as Saloon Keeper in 1912 in Chicago, IL.

Other marriages:
, Marie

IMMIGRANT: 1898 Travelled with sister Anni.

From the Boulaide Mill: "Frederic “Fritz” CLEMENT made at least four trips to the US over the years, the first in 1893. He married Kate, an American from Ohio. They bought a restaurant on Willow St. in Chicago in 1912 where Elise NILLES (see) later worked. They eventually retired to Ohio."

Also from Boulaide Mill (updated ed): Fritz had a bar and buffet restaurant located at Wells and Illinois Streets in Chicago, then in 1912 he bought one at 758 Willow St. He might have had another one later on Lincoln Ave. Elise NILLES worked at one of them. He was married and had two children, a son Freddy and a daughter. Freddy fatally shot his sister while cleaning a gun. After Fritz' wife died he married Kate, an American from Ohio, a favorite aunt who is still remembered fondly for her kindness and her good cooking! They eventually retired to Ohio.

From Heckenbach's "Clement" page: Friedrich “Fritz” CLEMENT was an interesting character nicknamed "the Hareler Friedchen" (Harlange is also known as Harel.) His wedding picture is below. He made his first of at least four trips to the US at age 19 in 1893. He was naturalized Oct 12, 1900. In 1906 Fritz owned a bar and buffet restaurant located at Wells and Illinois Streets in Chicago. That was where Marie SCHULLER from the Boulaide mill went upon arriving in the US. Then in 1912 he bought one at 758 Willow St. He might have had another one later on Lincoln Ave. Elise NILLES might have worked at one of those places.
Fritz married "Marie" from Luxembourg (see picture at bottom of page) and they had two children, a son Fred (born Aug 1900) and a daughter. Fred fatally shot his sister "Girlie" in a BB gun accident. Marie died quite young and Fritz then married Kate, an American from Delphos, Ohio. She was a favorite aunt who is still remembered fondly for her kindness and her good cooking! But it's reported that she was a bad stepmother to Fred.
Fritz seemed well-off in his younger years but toward the end he was associating with unsavory characters. He suffered from tuberculosis and died poor on Nov 19, 1932. He was said to have made "bathtub" gin in those years. I heard that Kate was no longer with him any more. I would like to know her date of death.
On one of his trips to the US, in 1898, Fritz brought his sister Anni CLEMENT, the one born in 1871. Her future husband Peter MICHELAU also from Harlange was on the boat as well. They both emigrated from Harlange but they were not traveling together. They ended up on the same ship, and were surprised to encounter each other again in Chicago. They married and settled in Evanston, at 205 Asbury, where they owned a large complex of greenhouses. They had 8 children including Mary who married Nick ENDRÉ.

Two sons Johann (1887-1969) and Antoine HIRTZ (1895-1964) later moved to Saskatchewan and have many descendents there. A daughter Caroline HIRTZ (1893-1983) married George LAGARDER from Bigonville and they lived in Paris. Another son Michel ''Michy'' HIRTZ (1907-1974) did some genealogy work in the early 1960s for which I am most grateful."

from Terry and Val Hvidston: "“Pierre and Caroline lived in a farm house that had been in the family for over 400 years. Pierre was a farmer and a butcher, a big man over six feet tall. He also bought and sold cattle. Caroline was a little short woman. Henri was his first name or Christian name by which he was generally known in the administrations and abroad. Pierre, pronounced Peter, was the forename by which he was generally known and called at home. The young children all called him "Monni" which means uncle. "Nekels" was the house name, (conventional designation of the houses introduced in the Middle Ages) all the members of a family and even all others living under the roof of this house were called by their first name and the house name. In the thirties, Pierre and Caroline moved from Bigonville to their children Marguerite and Michel in Luxembourg City. They returned to Bigonville only on weekends in the summertime. During… the "Battle of the Bulge", their home was destoyed.”
