IMMIGRANT
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: According to family oral tradition, gleaned mainly from Katy Kalb, Clemens originally of Jefferson, WI, moved to Indiana after his wife died in childbirth and came to settle in with his dead wife's friend, Mary Wilger. This story has proven a bit false, since I have uncovered that Mary Wilger married Clemence in Chicago in the same year that his wife, Emma, died.

I need to locate this 1880 Census record as it seems to correlate.

Life: According to family oral tradition, gleaned mainly from Katy Kalb, Clemence moved to Indiana after his wife died in childbirth and came to settle in with his dead wife's friend, Mary Wilger. This story is suspect since I have uncovered that Mary Wilger married Clemence in Chicago in the same year that his wife, Emma, died.
Research notes: Found 1880 Census record on familysearc.com (need to see it closer). There is a daughter named Mary Willger (this is how name is spelled on her marriage cert.) who was born the same year as our Mary and in the same place, Germany. The father, however, is listed as Peter (63 yrs. old farmer of Germany). The father on Mary's obit. was an Edward Wilger (who does not appear in 1880 census). The mother of this family is Barbara (56), children include Peter (30), John (25), Emma (22). The most peculiar thing is that they were from Jefferson, Jefferson Co., WI. This correlates with family tradition (above), but not with her obituary. There is a large Wilger family in Ozaukee Co., WI, in 1880 also.
They had the following children:
F i Maria Margaretha Ott was born 1 on 21 Jan 1887 in Lake View, IL (now Chicago). She died on 14 May 1953 in Chicago, IL. She was buried in 1953 in Des Plaines, IL (All Saints Cemetary).
Name is epr St. Alphonsus Records, corresponds with birthdate and name known to family.F ii Anna Marie Ott M iii Theodor Ott 1 was born 2 on 30 Nov 1891 in Chicago, IL (Lake View). He died 3 on 24 Sep 1904 in Kniman, Walker Twp., Jasper Co., IN. The cause of death was Tetanus or blood poisoning (traditionally). He was buried 4 in 1904 in Wheatfield, IN (Sorrowful Mother Cemetary).
Research findings: The date of death recorded in the cemetary records ended up being 9/24/1904, which is nine days later than the family's traditionally recorded death date of 9/15/1904.
Birthday on 1900 Census is 10/1891
Life: Most of what is known of this life comes from sketchy stories told by his sister Frances Erne. She said he died after contracting tetanus while playing around in a field and stepping on a nail. This story was backed up by research of Jule JaskoskeF iv Johanna Margaret Ott F v Catherina Gertrude Ott F vi Frances A. Ott M vii Clemens Jr. Ott was born 1 on 30 Nov 1890 in Chicago, IL.
Previously unknown to family. May have died in infancy.
