1593 Feb. As a bishop at the Uppsala Synod, he took a leading role in banning elements of Calvinism from the Lutheran Church of Sweden. (This decision angered the future King Karl greatly, who was secretly a Calvinist.) The synod recognized the Bible as its only authority, recognized the Augsburg Confession, and banned all Catholic practices.
