His son was born in Indiana. The oil industry in Jasper County was picking up around this time. Perhaps, a coal dealer would want to get into that.
1910 Living with wife Ottilie alone. No occupation listed. He lived a few houses from that of Clemens Ott in Union Twp., Jasper Co., IN. Says they were married 11 years.

From the above account: They moved to Michigan in 1853 to Bloomer Township in Montcalm County. They came with covered wagons; one being drawn by a yoke of oxen, the other by team of horses hired for the trip. They arrived in September of 1853 and at once started to build a little house to serve as shelter from the Winter that would soon be upon them; the severity of which they did not even dream. It was built of logs cut from the forest by grandfather and the boys.... Named for a town in Orleans Co., Vermont. Operated canal boat on Ohio River. (Langdon)
